Summary: Nino's infinity has everything to do with Ohno.
Notes: This is what happens when I get Ninomiya Kazunari/Ohno Satoshi: Infinity from the JE Crack Pairing Generator and research words like infinity, geometry and geometric abstract art at dictionary.com and wikipedia. So, I get my inspiration from weird places. Who doesn't? XD; And even after all that, I just basically wrote some fluff.


It had been Jun who had told him that infinity can also be a distance setting in a camera, beyond which everything in the field comes into focus. And it had been Sho, in the midst of his uni years, who had said that in geometry, parallel lines are sometimes thought to be meeting at infinity.

At that time, Nino had thought of those being just unnecessary complications of a word, which was actually pretty simple. Infinity was forever and ever, never ending and never stopping. That was all that it was supposed to mean. Why bother with complications when they didn’t affect his life in any way?

Now he knew how it felt when the word suddenly meant something else. His work in the movie had acted as the lense of the camera and the ocean between him and Japan could have just as well been infinite. The few weeks he had been away had been the setting that brought everything into focus for him. He had experienced so many new things in such a short time that he felt like a completely different person when he came back home. Things that had mattered to him once upon a time were suddenly very trivial and the reasons he had had for not doing certain things were all gone.

Nino reached forwards and touched Ohno’s neck with his fingertips, making him flinch.

”Ah, cold, Nino,” Ohno said without looking back, with that small whine in his voice that made Nino grin.

Then the hype and the praises and the talk about Oscars had come. Before it all, he had always thought that it would be important to him, that he would be feeling proud and maybe get a bit cocky about it all. Before, he had wondered about how it would feel to get an Oscar and get recognised by the world.

Now, he didn’t really care. He didn’t have time or space in his head to think about stupid things like those. Right now, his head was full of stupid, but at least more important, thoughts of mathematics, geometry and how parallel lines went on, together, until they met at the edge of infinity. And wasn’t that what ideal love was supposed to be like? Wasn’t that really the definition of the mythical happily ever after, the forever and ever? Could it be scientifically or mathematically proven as true or false?

He wasn’t that gifted with mathematics, he didn’t know, would never know. But at least he could recognise parallel lines when he saw them. Right from the beginning, Ohno had been his parallel. And Nino really wished that the theory about the lines was true.

”Ohno, do you like geometry?” Nino asked, leaning over, placing his chin on Ohno’s shoulder, his hands casually snaking around Ohno’s waist.

“Hm?” Ohno muttered, turning his head so that he could take a look at Nino, his nose inadvertently brushing against Nino’s cheek. Nino stopped himself from leaning in and just smiled at Ohno, nodding.

Still, he had a problem. It was fine for lines to be infinite, but with humans, everything was so finite, he had to do something before it was too late. He couldn’t afford waiting for infinity to come for him, parallels weren’t enough in this case.

Ohno shrugged slightly, with one shoulder, careful not to bump his other shoulder on Nino’s chin. “I don’t know... I guess. It’s just art for art’s sake, I think. It’s just clean shapes and composition, and I like that.” Ohno was frowning slightly, unsure of what Nino was getting at. But still Ohno was ready to indulge him. That always made Nino happy.

Nino’s smile got wider. “I wasn’t actually talking about art, but okay,” he laughed. “Do you prefer straight lines or curved ones?”

Parallel lines might be beautiful and pleasant in geometry, but in life, Nino liked everything a bit more slanted. As harmonical as it would be to continue as they had been doing this far, Nino wasn’t really satisfied.

“Curved lines are always more interesting,” Ohno smiled. “What’s this about?”

“I’m just interested,” Nino shrugged and casually moved closer to Ohno, practically wrapping himself around him, feeding on the warmth of Ohno’s body, feeling the curve of Ohno’s back. He sighed happily. “I completely agree. Infinities are stupid anyway.”

Ohno laughed, maybe a little bit uncomfortable but not asking Nino to move away. “I don’t know at all what you are talking about.”

“I’ll try to explain,” Nino said, running his fingers in circles over Ohno’s arms, noticing how the small hairs on them were standing up, how Ohno was getting goosebumps all over. He had never been close to Ohno like this before, not this gently and not this deliberately. He was definitely crossing some lines. But still Ohno wasn’t moving away, but actually pressing closer, giving Nino permission to continue. “Only an idiot waits for something that may never come if you don’t do something about it. You know, like lines that never cross. And Sho was telling me things about geometry and mathematical theories, a long time ago. It’s stupid, I don’t know why his dull topic stuck with me, but ever since I’ve been thinking of us as two lines going towards the same direction and now I’m kind of bored of it.”

“...Bored?” Ohno asked, his voice wavering slightly.

“Yeah,” Nino muttered, hoping that Ohno really was as easy to read as he thought, pressing his lips against Ohno’s neck, just below the hairline. “The annoying part about all this is that we never touch like I want us to.”

Maybe he should next take interest in chemistry, Nino thought, as Ohno turned around to face him and as his hand brushed against Nino’s cheek. Chemical reactions really were so much more interesting.
